Our second blog post is about a comic strip we created about an essay of our choice that we discussed in class. I chose to do "Fall From University Grace" by Marty J. Chan.

Short Story Post

The thematic connection between both The Veldt by Ray Bradbury and the newspaper article about Brandon Crisp is that we shouldn’t wholeheartedly depend on technology or we will eventually suffer the consequences. In The Veldt, the parents transform the entire house so that technology is doing everything for them. They also create a playroom for the children so that they could have some fun. Little did they know that this would be the cause of they’re death. Similarly in the news article about Brandon Crisp, the over use of his technology leads to his death. Due to the fact that his Xbox counsel was affecting both his social life and his academic work, both his parents confiscated his system. This led the young man into running away and not returning. Days later, he body was found deceased not far from his home. Because Brandon depended on his game so much, he didn’t know how to express his emotions when he lost the gaming privileges he had, therefore he ran away. This leads us to believe that Brandon was wholeheartedly depending on technology.
For example, in The Veldt the narrator says “They walked down the hall of their sound proofed Happy Life Home, which had cost them thirty thousand dollar installed, this house which clothed them, fed and rocked them to sleep and played and sang was good to them”. This sentence states that the family thought the new transformation of their house would re-connect them as a family, when it really did the opposite. Correspondingly in the article, Brandon Crisp’s whole life is focused on this game, and this eventually results in his death.  All in all, both this article and this story prove to us that taking advantage of technology might be beneficial, but it could have a negative impact on your life.

The purpose of this blog is for my English class.
